In 1274, Kublai Kahn attacked Japan. The Japanese samurai were able to fight the Mongols off, and in their departure the Mongolian soldiers were actually struck by a typhoon. The Mongols came back in 1281 and were again struck by a typhoon while retreating. The Japanese called this act of nature the Divine Wind. This name was later adopted by the Special Attacks Unit during the Second World War.
