Madonna's sixth album, Erotica, was released in 1992. The record has sold six million copies worldwide. Madonna released a coffee table book in tandem with the album entitled Sex which contained explicit photos of the artist herself. The success of the record and book were not surprising, even despite their controversy, as Madonna had been pushing boundaries for nearly a decade by that point. The negative press the book received took attention away from the album, even though the book sold over a million copies. Erotica was Madonna's first album to not land any #1 hits. Despite all of this though, the album still debuted at #2 on the Billboard charts and received generally positive reviews.
